On to the Old Pecan Street Festival

We wrapped up our Spring of 2006 with our first performance at the Old Pecan Street Festival. This was great -- we got to be on stage with a good-sized audience, and an actual "audio engineer" to take care of the sound. We actually did two 45 minute sets -- one on the Main Stage, and one on the International Stage. Those kids were tough! We also put in several hours of recording in the music room. The idea was to do a collection of live cuts -- this group has always had great energy, and that is what I wanted to capture. I ran four vocal microphones into a mixer (three of which went through tube pre-amps)-- one an omnidirectional to get the room sound, one SM 57 on my VOX guitar amp, and the bass we ran directly into the mixer. From the mixer, we went straight to DAT (digital audio tape). I would later go through as many as twenty-four takes on one song, to as few as one per song on a couple of them and choose what I thought were the best representation of "what we sound like on a good day." These became Electric Spirituals.
